Maybe you know that Shenzhen’s GDP is among the top few in the country, but you don’t know that the whole of Shenzhen used to be “Bao’an”, and you don’t know that the real name of “Diwang Building” is not called “Diwang Building” at all. If you are new to Shenzhen, you should take a look at this article. If you are from old Shenzhen, welcome to supplement popular science.
How big was Shenzhen before?
Shenzhen was formerly called Bao’an County, and Bao’an began as a county system in 331 AD. The jurisdiction is roughly Shenzhen, Dongguan and Hong Kong today. In 1979, the State Council abolished Bao’an County and changed it to Shenzhen.

Dongguan County, established during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, was the earliest state administrative institution established in Shenzhen in history! In the future, whoever wants to say that I only have more than 30 years of history, I will be anxious with whom. The original special zones of Shenzhen (commonly known as Guannei) are: Futian, Nanshan, Luohu and Yantian. (Is there anyone like the editor who thought that Yantian was outside the pass when he first came…) In the 80s and early 90s, Shenzhen was Luohu, and Luohu was Shenzhen, and it was Luohu without the Diwang Building.
It turns out that these names came from like this~
The place name “Shenzhen” in Shenzhen first appeared in historical records in 1410 (Ming), “Zhen” means field ditch in the Hakka dialect, and “Shenzhen” is named because the village is surrounded by dense water and there is a deep ditch in the field. Pengcheng Shenzhen, also known as “Pengcheng”, originates from the ancient city of Dapeng on the shore of Dapeng Bay in the east of Shenzhen. After the reform and opening up, Shenzhen has made remarkable achievements, which means that Shenzhen is like a roc with wings spread, fighting the storm, traveling in the sky, and moving forward bravely.

The place name Zhuzilin was called by Shenzhen’s 20,000 infrastructure engineers…… In 1983, when the soldiers “went into the city” to run errands and returned to the station, they told the driver that they wanted to get off the bamboo forest, and pointed to the bamboo shed in the distance. The legend of Che Gong Temple commemorates Che Gong, the Grand Marshal of Che. At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, the Song emperor took refuge in the south, and was escorted by Marshal Che to the area of Shenzhen, Guangdong. After the death of Marshal Che, later generations built a temple for him to show his loyalty and bravery.
