Microsoft releases SpreadsheetLLM, which can greatly improve AI’s capabilities in Excel
Microsoft has released a new large-scale language model and plans to develop a new AI large-scale language model for spreadsheet applications such as Excel and Sheets–Spread sheetLLM.
Microsoft pointed out in the paper that as a brand new AI model, SpreadsheetLLM will be widely used to understand and process complex spreadsheet data.
It may make accountants and data analysts worry about their future job prospects. Netizens joked on social platform X, thinking that “Karen’s job will soon be replaced by artificial intelligence.”

Researchers pointed out that current spreadsheet applications are rich in features and provide users with a large number of choices in layout and format, which makes it difficult for traditional AI big language models to play a role in spreadsheet processing. Spread sheetLLM is an AI model specifically designed for spreadsheet applications.
The SheetCompressor tool has also been developed to help SpreadsheetLLM better understand and process spreadsheet data.
