DJI Osmo Mobile3 experience:19-10-28
Although DJI was attracted by the OSMO Mobile2 last year, it was also reluctant to give up due to its size and inconvenience. However, DJI finally launched a new generation of OSMO Mobile3 (Eyesight mobile phone PTZ 3) this year. Before the official spot sale, I asked a friend to borrow this OSMO Mobile3 to experience it.
OSMO Mobile 3 stand-alone version is priced at 699 yuan, and the set version with storage bag and triangular bracket is priced at 799 yuan. I borrowed the latter set version this time.
This time, DJI should have listened to the user’s feedback. The storage bag of OSMO Mobile3 is very small, which can be easily put into a backpack, photo bag or shoulder bag, and implements the product concept of “Mobile”. However, unexpectedly, the triangular bracket included in the set version cannot be put into the storage bag. You have to store it separately. It would be better if it could be stored together.
The essence of the OSMO Mobile3 design is folding storage. After folding, the size is 157 × 130 × 46mm, which can be put into pockets and trouser pockets, and when fully unfolded, it is 286 × 125 × 103mm. And the OSMO Mobile3 body is equipped with special punctuation and buckle. As long as we align the punctuation points at each position, the buckle can be firmly stored without loosening.
Connect with the triangular bracket through the 1/4 screw hole at the bottom of the handle. After it is fully unfolded, the mobile phone fixing clip of OSMO Mobile3 will appear in a horizontal upward state (also in this state after shutdown). After placing the direction of the rear camera of the mobile phone according to the instructions on the fixing clip, and adjusting the left and right balance of the mobile phone, you can press the power button (M mode switch button) for a long time to turn it on.
However, it should be noted that the width of the mobile phone I used this time is about 74mm and weighs about 200g. Coupled with the original protective case, it feels that the mobile phone fixing clip on the OSMO Mobile3 is already difficult to clamp the mobile phone. At the same time, the fixing clip is also easy to press the power and volume buttons on both sides of the fuselage. Therefore, if your mobile phone is larger and heavier, and the buttons on both sides are biased to the center, it will be more troublesome to adjust the balance of the mobile phone, and even cannot be fixed for use. PS: The official requirements for applicable mobile phones are weight 170-230g, thickness not more than 9.5mm, and width 62-88mm.
The OSMO Mobile3 doesn’t have many buttons. The front is a universal dial, M mode switch button, and recording button. The left side is a zoom button. The right side is a Type-C charging jack and a USB-A expansion hole, which can be connected to the device to charge it. The back side is a trigger button, which can be used to set different operations.
After OSMO Mobile 3 is powered on, the mobile phone defaults to a vertical screen state, which meets the current needs for vertical screen short videos, Vlogs or selfies. We can switch to a horizontal screen state by double-clicking the M mode switch button.
In addition to the folding storage mentioned earlier, another practical improvement of the OSMO Mobile 3 compared to the previous generation is that the shaft body between the mobile phone fixing clip and the gimbal motor is designed to have a certain inclination angle, which allows the charging port of the mobile phone and the earphone to be exposed for easy use.
Good hardware also needs to be matched with software to play to its full potential. We need to install DJI Mimo App on our mobile phone to connect to OSMO Mobile3. Through Mimo, you can achieve basic settings and operations of OSMO Mobile3 with one hand. Even if you are a small white user, you can get started with basic operations in a short time. At present, Mimo provides 7 shooting modes: photo, video, motion delay, time-lapse photography, slow motion, panoramic photography, and Story, which can help users create different creations.
This time we focus on the Smart Follow and Story functions. Smart Follow is a very practical function. After turning on this function, we just need to pull the trigger, and the phone can automatically follow the object in the center of the picture. You don’t need to use the universal dial to move the focus shooting with the object as the center. When you pull the trigger again, you can cancel it.
Compared with using the trigger button to quickly lock the object following the center of the image quality, we can also slide the finger on the screen to select the corresponding object, the advantage is that you can choose the object at any position in the screen to lock the follow.
Intelligent follow has a high recognition rate and follow success rate, which can help you capture objects and complete shooting more easily, even if you are a small white user.
Story mode is another surprise on DJI Mimo and OSMO Mobile 3. Story mode provides 13 templates for users to choose from. Users can choose only the mode they want, and then follow the above demonstration to shoot multiple corresponding video footage. DJI Mimo can generate blockbusters with one click.
The following is the video I shot using the Story mode of OSMO Mobile3. Although the video is slightly simple and templated, it is a good gadget for beginners to meet your needs for sending Moments or Weibo. After the experience accumulated in previous generations of products, this OSMO Mobile3 better meets the needs of mass consumers and amateur players for handheld gimbal products. Next is some of my personal experience. The weight of the OSMO Mobile3 is only 405g, plus a 200g mobile phone, the overall weight is within an acceptable range. After a short familiarity with the buttons and functions, you can shoot the picture you want.
In consumer handheld gimbal products, whether it is the stability of the picture when the handheld moves, or the vertical and horizontal rotation of the universal dial, the motor and system algorithm of the OSMO Mobile3 bring satisfactory performance, which can significantly reduce the jitter of the picture. At the same time, the 2450mAh battery built into the OSMO Mobile3 is also enough for me to use it sporadically for a week, which is also close to the official claim of 15 hours of battery life.
Although I have been using OSMO Mobile3 for less than a week and have experienced limited functions, I can clearly feel the product characteristics of OSMO Mobile3: folding and easy to use.
