New Android feature: Can lock the screen if the phone is stolen
Google is rolling out a set of new features designed to prevent thieves from accessing your data more easily. According to Mishaal Rahman, he posted on Reddit that the features appeared in the new update after he discovered that his Xiaomi 14T Pro phone now has “theft detection lock” and “offline device lock” features, two of the three features Google announced in May. Others said they only saw the third item, called “remote locking.”
The most eye-catching new feature is the theft detection lock, which uses AI to lock your screen when it detects “common actions related to theft,” such as someone snatches your phone from your hand. At the same time, offline device locks the screen of the device after it has been offline for a while, while remote locks allow users to lock their phone only by their mobile phone number if they cannot log in with a password to find my device.
Devices that support theft detection locks and offline device locks need to run Android 10 and above. For remote locks, at least Android 5 is required. If you don’t already have these features, you can try updating Google Play services, but Google usually rolls out new features in stages rather than giving them to all users at once, so like me, you may have to wait a while.

Google starts pushing anti-theft lock feature to Android phones
Google has begun pushing three anti-theft locking features to Android phones announced earlier this year. Three tools- Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock and Remote Lock-are designed to allow users to quickly lock their devices after their phones are stolen, preventing any sensitive data stored on the devices from being accessed by thieves. The first two tools are already available on Xiaomi 14T Pro phones, and the third tool also appears on Pixel phones. Google said it uses AI to determine whether the phone has been snatched and fled, in which case the phone’s screen will be locked. Remote Lock allows users to remotely lock devices based on their mobile phone number alone. Offline Device Lock automatically locks the screen when a thief disconnects his mobile phone network connection for a long time.
Apple Intelligence officially launches on October 28
Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter reported that Apple has made it clear that Apple Intelligence will be launched in October, with the specific date being October 28, and the first batch will support American English language.
At that time, the iOS 18.1 version will also end its testing phase.
Launch AI functions in phases
Initial versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 will include only some Apple Intelligence features, mainly notification summaries and writing tools.
Future updates will add more features one after another, such as iOS 18.2 is expected to add custom emoji and the integration of ChatGPT with Siri. By the iOS 18.4 release in March next year, Siri will receive a number of updates, including situational response capabilities based on personal profiles and communication data.
Apple launches it in batches mainly to ensure that there are no major vulnerabilities and avoid affecting the user experience. It is also preparing relevant infrastructure to ensure that artificial intelligence cloud servers can handle sudden increases in traffic.
