Global Google Street View update

Improved image quality

Google is updating Street View images for nearly 80 countries,(Original Google Blog), including Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Japan, the Philippines, Rwanda, Serbia and South Africa. In addition, the company has introduced Street View services to countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Namibia, Liechtenstein and Paraguay for the first time.

Portable cameras help extend coverage

Google says a more portable Street View camera launched in 2022 will help provide images to more places in the future. The application of this technology is expected to significantly increase the coverage and update frequency of Street View services.

Improved satellite image quality

Google Maps and Google Earth will also get clearer satellite images. This is due to the company’s cloud removal artificial intelligence tool, which can eliminate interference factors such as clouds, shadows, and smog. Google said this will lead to “brighter, more vivid” images.

Expansion of historical image functions

In the near future, users will be able to view historical images on Google Earth’s web and mobile apps, a feature previously limited to the Google Earth Pro desktop app. This update will make it easier for users to compare satellite and aerial image changes over the years for a location.
