Adobe releases Firefly Vector AI model

Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop introduce some new tools and generative AI features. The most eye-catching feature of this update comes from Adobe’s latest Firefly Vector AI model, which begins public testing today.

This new Firefly Vector model brings many new features to Illustrator, such as Generating Shape Fill, where users can add detailed vector graphics to shapes through descriptive text prompts. The updated model also improves Text to Pattern testing capabilities, which can be used to create extensible custom vector patterns such as wallpapers, and Style Reference, which can generate output that matches existing styles.

Adobe has released new Firefly tools for Photoshop and Illustrator, giving graphic designers more ways to use the company’s internal AI models. At the same time, Adobe’s new feature also allows creative workers to describe the effect they want with short prompts, and then receive AI-generated textures or images, which would otherwise take hours to complete can now be completed in a minute.

Media reports that as Adobe increases its investment in AI, some loyal customers feel threatened by the company using their work to train Firefly. Adobe also pays annual bonuses to Adobe Stock photographers and illustrators as compensation for this privilege. Adobe said it is taking a “creator-friendly approach” by providing Creative Cloud users a certain amount of generated points each month at no additional cost.

Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe’s vice president of product marketing, said in an interview with the media: “These values are already included in their Creative Cloud plan. We just want to put this technology in the hands of users, so the points limit they get is very generous.”

Illustrator is releasing a new test tool,”Generate Shape Fill,” that allows users to add detail and texture to shapes through text prompts or selecting style references. This feature is supported by an updated version of the Firefly Vector model released on Tuesday. In the demonstration, Adobe Creative Cloud promotional ambassador Paul Trani showed how the new feature can be equipped with a slider that allows creators to choose the amount of detail to add. After Firefly generates these details, Illustrator allows users to edit them, which distinguishes it from most AI image generators.
